Marin Quarry Trying to Gather Support from Residents

The owner of the San Rafael Quarry, located in Marin County, is hoping that a majority of Marin residents will stand behind him and continue supporting the quarry. The quarry has been operating since the 80's, and as of 2001, been operating without many interruptions. Currently, the owner wants to dig a deeper pit than what is currently allowed and would like to continue its operations for nearly twenty years. This would also consist of two hundred fifty truck trips a day. When the mining has been completed, the owner would like to continue by cutting a channel between the bay and pit and eventually develop housing / commercial buildings.

The lawsuit filed in 2001, by a Marin homeowner and others, accuses the quarry of operating beyond its legal limits, as well as, creating harmful pollutants, stirring up dust, creating noise and excessive traffic.

As the public hearing comes closer, the quarry owner has launched a campaign hoping to gather more support for his mission, by focusing of the quarry's significant value to Marin County. I will keep you posted.
